An oyster knife is a specialized tool used for opening oysters. They are often used by shuckers and seafood restaurant staffs. These knives are also widely used for home kitchen as well for those who love to prepare oysters for their meals.
How to open an oyster:
To open an oyster, you will need an oyster knife or a sturdy, sharp knife. Hold the oyster in a towel or glove to protect your hand from the sharp edges of the shell. Locate the hinge at the narrow end of the oyster and insert the tip of the knife into it. Apply pressure to the knife and twist it back and forth to loosen the hinge. Once the hinge is open, slide the knife along the top of the oyster to sever the muscle that attaches the top and bottom shells. Be careful not to lose any of the oyster's liquid, known as the "liquor," as it contains much of the flavor of the oyster. Enjoy your oyster!
